shenzhen is Recommended to be Established as the Fifth Municipality of China

Recently, Gao Jingde, the committee member of CPPCC, president of the Association of Chinese Culture of Hong Kong and president of the board of New Handsome Joint Group made a proposal in an interview in the hope of establishing Shenzhen as a municipality and build an super international metropolitan of great Pearl River Delta with Hong Kong and Shenzhen as the centre.

 

With respect to the reason why to choose this region, Gao Jingde remarked, “From the perspective of the total amount of GDP and the number of population, Hong Kong acts as the financial center of the whole Asian-Pacific region; if Hong Kong is to be joined with Shenzhen, then a structure of double layer economic integration shall be formed. ”

 

On January 28th this year, Shenzhen Statistical Bureau issued the relevant data of the economic operation of Shenzhen in 2010. According to the preliminary calculation, the GDP of the whole city reached 951.091 billion Yuan, which ranked the fourth among the large and medium-sized cities in China, exceeding that of Tianjin and Chongqing. Based on the remarkable economic development statistics, Gao Jingde addressed encouragingly that if it was possible to establish Shenzhen as the fifth municipal , then “it shall take 20 or 30 years for the great Pearl River Delta to build a metropolis which exceeds New York ”; from the perspective of economic aggregate, “if add up Hong Kong and Shenzhen together, then the GDP in 2020 shall definitely exceed 300 billion Dollars and the population shall reach more than 20 million.”

 

The committee member, Gao Jingde, expressed that the recommendation of establishing Shenzhen as a municipality was not only based on the splendid economic development of Shenzhen but also on the perspective of the whole country. There are Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing Municipal in the Northern, Eastern and Western part of China, but there is not even one municipality in Southern China. “If Shenzhen were to be established as a municipality, then it shall play the role of leading and fueling the whole region”
